Meet Karen Merbaum!

Hi! I’m Karen and along with our team of creative instructors, I run Barking Cat Studio—a fun, busy, creative little neighborhood art studio built just for kids.

For the past 12 years, we’ve been nurturing and encouraging kids to explore their imagination and creative passion. We’re a teaching studio and we love sharing our skills in artmaking. We want kids to learn while they‘re here. And with projects grounded in fine art principles, we pride ourselves in creating fun art projects and a creative curriculum that is engaging and grows with your child.

We offer classes for kids as young as 2 years old—or when they’ve stopped eating their crayons—and continue through their tweens.

I am extremely proud of what we do at Barking Cat. Our goal is to see kids enjoy the creative process and feel good about themselves.We foster self-esteem and encourage independent thinking while teaching the importance of being part of a creative community. We want kids to understand the importance of kindness, patience, teamwork and problem-solving all while having fun creating their own art.
